LiUNA Local 720 - Standing Together

With the ever-growing concern, worldwide and here in Colorado regarding the coronavirus, we wanted to reach out to our LiUNA Local 720 family with an update. We have always believed that family is the core value of LiUNA. The Health and Safety of our members and their families remains our top priority. In these uncertain times, we stand together with our members and want each of you to know that you can count on your Colorado Team to do all we can to alleviate the impact created by the coronavirus.

We are doing our part by following state and local area guidelines. Local 720 is currently open for business assisting members and operating efficiently.

We are communicating with our signatory contractors, on behalf of all members.

As a Colorado Building Trades affiliate, we partnered with other unions to send a letter to Governor Polis to ensure our laborers and the work they do are considered essential and remain employed.

We are in close communication with our Regional Office and International Union. Our International Union has recently sent a letter to Congress outlining necessary relief for LiUNA members throughout the country.

We have communicated with our Health & Welfare Trustees and Fund Professionals to take action to ensure our plan participants and their dependents have the necessary benefits related to the coronavirus. We have included a link below.

We will continue to actively monitor and follow the latest updates and recommendations from our state & local leaders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, and local public health departments.

Please continue to listen closely to our robocalls and other communications as they contain important information. We encourage members to check our website and facebook page for important updates.

Finally, we know our lives have changed dramatically. We want our members to know that our union is actively engaged in efforts to help serve and protect you during this crisis. On behalf of our entire Colorado Team, please be safe and follow the advice of our state and local leaders & local public health departments.

In 1981 the W. Vernie Reed Scholarship Fund was established as a living memorial to the late W. Vernie Reed, General Secretary-Treasurer of the Laborers’ International Union of North  America, who represented our Northwest Region. Since that time, the scholarship fund has awarded 307 scholarships totaling over $475,000 to our members, their children and grandchildren from various Local Unions throughout the Region. We should all take great pride that we have established such a fund in memory of one of LIUNA's past leaders, who fought so hard for every LIUNA member, Local Union and District Council.

Through the generosity of Brother Reed’s friends and associates, a self-perpetuating fund will provide a program of yearly scholarships to assist eligible worthy students in furthering their four (4) year undergraduate education. The first award was made in the Spring of 1981. Scholarships are usually awarded before July.

We are please to announce that for 2020, the Board of Directors announced they will be awarding twenty-two scholarships (one per each Local Union in our Region) valued at $3,000.00 each. Keep in mind – an applicant WILL NOT be considered if the application is incomplete for any reason or is not received by April 1, 2020 (received – not postmarked). Additionally the Board intends to award twelve main scholarships at $2,000.00 each and one scholarship, the Pamela Reed Award, will be valued at $6,000.00.
